The 327 has a 6 3/4 inch balancer and the 408 has an 8 inch. It looks like the 8 inch balancer might be close to the sway bar if installed as is.The 383 is a bit more radical on the heads/cam combo but it still makes all of the power of the 377 but of course has a ton more low end grunt! The 383 runs the numbers with a 2800-3200 stall and the valvetrain doesn't take a beating. The 377 hit's it's best with @ a 5000 stall and shifts are closer to 7800 vs the 383's 7000 shift point.

Around where i live you dont find a 5.3 under 300,000 miles, with that many miles your going to need to rebuild.
