I've played a lot of Shards and Ascension competitively. Here are my thoughts: Shards is base game is way more streamlined than base Ascension. Shards games are way tighter, play quicker and often end with nail biting finishes. That being said: Shards online community just isn't as big and that has affected rollout of digital expansions.
