This isn’t an O-5 problem - every CG I’ve served under has had a reputation of this line of thinking, and it propagates down through the field grades. In my opinion, SMA Grinston and his esteemed PAO imparted deeper and more meaningful changes to the force than SMA Dailey did. SMA Grinston and his PAO embodied every one of their programs and policy changes put in place. SMA Weimer just took the helm, following two extremely popular SMA’s back to back. Maybe he’s not great, maybe he will be. There can absolutely be multiple 5-stars at once, it happened in WWII.
