after watching strimtom's video and after experimenting the blightcaster class on hardcore server until level 29, I have to admit that on hardcore server a blightcaster hive master build is a lot more survivable than a cold druid build.

Strimtom's hardcore season 1, 2 and 3 builds are easy to achieve, high survivability, decent new player starting builds that require no tomes. Some involve race/class/universal tree unlocks but a fair bit don't. I would say new players go look there instead of other places.
